I cookie likes

Okay apparently Google translate sucks.  Maybe it works between languages that follow similar grammatical structure, but English to Japanese requires a little more intelligence than merely translating each word separately and stringing them together.  My friend told me "私のようなクッキー" and I immediately thought "Google fails" and "she likes cookies." The literal translation is "a cookie like me," since of course it translated each word separately to achieve this nonsense: 私: I/me, のような: like (in the comparison sense, not the preference sense), and okay, well it at least caught the rest correctly.  The correct way of saying "I like cookies" is "私はクッキーが好き," which, if you just look at it as a string of words the Google way, translates to "I am cookie like." Turns out you have to type in "I cookie(s) likes" in order for Google to understand that like is used as a verb and to coerce the correct ordering.  ::Ramble over::

Loving Final Fantasy XIII, and especially Lightning and Fang.

Another Jack...

There was some odd rumor that Zac Efron was going to take over Johnny Depp's crucial role in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean 4. I'm not a fanatic but that can't be right, right?

Jack Sparrow by ~tamumu61 on deviantART

I think the face didn't take that long, but I procrastinated on the rest for weeks. Though pencil is generally easy, making the dark parts dark is so hard and takes a bit of unlaziness, which I don't have...

SonicStage 5.1

New version of SonicStage 5.1 (Japanese only as far as I know, but then again you shouldn't be sad because non-Japanese Walkmen aren't locked to SS) was released by Sony Japan a couple of weeks ago, and I definitely had to follow my own instructions to get rid of the stupid promotions frame again. At least the same procedure worked, but let's see how many versions it will take until I get sick of fixing it...

LUNARR

I just went to a talk by Toru Takasuka and Hideshi Hamaguchi of LUNARR, Japan. Coincidentally, I've subscribed to their corporate blog about a month ago and had no idea what their products were. Something about inspiration. In fact, their talk was so abstract... so Japanese... so scientific but chaotic (for better or worse), so obvious but not, that I kind of regained hope for the Japanese innovative process and its spirit. That is all, for now.

Enigma / Rainmeter

Clearly not what I should be spending my time doing... thanks to Lifehacker... [Rainmeter, Enigma]. I've also found Rainmeter to be better than Samurize, or at least more stable on Vista, but who knows. Wallpaper credits to ~KiloOneOne [Blackwater Point] and Bulletcatcher [Tuxflo]. Definitely needs playing around on my part, but I need to not be any more distracted from work...

Don't look at me like that.

My friend told me to bite the head off first so it would stop looking at you. Well, I partially followed instructions...

Happy Hippos from Italia, no more :(

Legos x10

Some dude in Japan, Kato Takafumi made buildable LEGOs out of paper. Check out this picture of a kid in front of a pile of them as well as other snapshots in the album, or go check out the exhibition at Musashino Art University.

Too much time? Or art? Well, I definitely wouldn't mind having a wall like this and ponder about "liberty with materialism." Oh wait... I have a phobia of large objects...

Can't Sleep, Can't Eat, I'm Sick

Well a third of that is true. Another product of insomnia, although it's also invading my daytime hours... when I should be work... or something. From the album cover, pencil only:

Insomnia...

It's been way too long since I've returned from Japan to blame it on jetlag, but I'm having issues falling asleep. I found out today that two of my roommates have the same problem... new room, new environment?

So what do I do? Draw random shit. It kind of sucks in limited lighting, however.

Mustang and Hawkeye

Finally got myself to take an hour to finish this drawing I meant to finish by November... I meant to only draw Riza, but by request of the recipient I threw in Roy. I must've wasted more time trying to scan this... ugh, but I like how Hawkeye turned out. Now I need to draw some non-anime subjects!

Yurt 2.0

Fun procrastination tool that I found via MAKE Magazine... yay pixel art.

Another ghetto tool worth mentioning is an Online Icon Maker where yurt 1.0 was conceived.

That makes me want to change this to yurt.blogspot.com and use my favicon...

Personally a fan of VAIO wallpapers at the moment.  Scroll down to 'Artist,' not the PC history crap.

SonicStage V

I'm sure not many people were as excited as I was when Sony announced the release of SonicStage V, a rather crash-prone and cumbersome application that manages your music.  Well, a Walkman user like myself, and especially those with the Japanese models, is pretty much stuck with SonicStage for now.  Even worse, the A820 series apparently has some incompability issues with SonicStage CP that made me reflash the memory a couple of times...

The upgraded player isn't too exciting except maybe that you can find whatever song you're currently listening to in the library with one click (yes, it used to be really lame), for rating purposes in my case.  Maybe I like the colors more... or something.

My biggest complaint was the "info" tab with a flash ad, which is not only annoying to look at but wastes resources.  Luckily, I found a way to get rid of it thanks to these blogs: http://blog.livedoor.jp/orcinus_/archives/51757103.html and http://taiseiko.blog.so-net.ne.jp/2008-10-13 (both Japanese), but it does also get rid of some other new features like album art and artist visualizers.  That's okay though.

Here are the English instructions to do so (I take no responsibility if anything goes wrong):

--------------------------------------
Getting rid of the box:
1. Close SonicStage V
2. Go to C:¥Documents and Settings¥All Users¥Application Data¥Sony Corporation¥SonicStage V¥Data¥XML¥Blue (Windows XP) or C:\ProgramData\Sony Corporation\SonicStage V\Data\XML\Blue (Windows Vista)
3. Open FullMode.xml in editor of choice (optional: back it up).
4. Under <!-- PortWindow -->, on line 354, change160 to 0.
5. Under <!-- ContentsArea -->, on line 363, change 160 to 0.

Getting rid of process:
1. Close SonicStage V and go to regedit
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Corporation\SonicStage V
3. Export key Promotion to backup, then delete it.
--------------------------------------

Voilà.

The Dark Knight

in... 5.5 days! Wallpaper based on graffiti. I'm starting to feel that my laptop screen is a lot more vibrant than most out there so the blue/green might not appear as rich on some monitors... Same for the previous Batman wallpaper with the dark brown gradient.. (1280x800 download at deviantART).

I also just uploaded the original graffiti for the previous Batman wallpaper.

PSP Firmware 4.0 out

This latest upgrade adds a google search function right from the home menus, video playback at different speeds, and closed caption for oneseg TV if you have that. Not ridiculously exciting for me but worth checking it out.
